Brighton vs Liverpool: Klopp speaks on Chelsea, Tottenham winning title

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, has said he is “not surprised” by Chelsea and Tottenham’s early charge to the Premier League title.

The Reds clinched their first domestic title in 30 years during the 2019/2020 season but looks set to face more competition this term.

Liverpool is currently second in the Premier League table, behind Tottenham on goal difference.

Chelsea sits in third place, two points behind Liverpool and Spurs.

When asked about the competitive nature of the current title race, Klopp told a press conference on Friday: “First and foremost it speaks for the quality of the Premier League.

“There’s a lot of quality in these squads and with the managers. A lot of good work is done on the training ground.

“They all played a really good season. I’m not surprised that Tottenham or Chelsea are where they are.

“Southampton looks really good too and we know how good Leicester are. It’s a sign that the teams are close together this year.

“It’s a very difficult but interesting season for everybody. There are chances there for all the teams and it’s nothing to do with what you achieved last year.

“You have to be ready for that because it’s really tough for all of us. But I’m not surprised.”

Liverpool continues their quest to retain the title on Saturday against Brighton, who are currently 16th in the table.
