Manchester City players Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte have tested positive for coronavirus, the Premier League club announced on Monday. City said in a statement that both players were self-isolating in accordance with Premier League and government rules. “Neither is displaying symptoms of the virus,” the statement said. “Everyone at the Club wishes Riyad and Aymeric a speedy recovery ahead of their return to training and the new season.” Manchester City’s first Premier League match is against Wolves on September 21.

Former Super Eagles defender Ajibade Babalade died today in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, after suffering cardiac arrest. Babalade, 48, died while being rushed to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, in the afternoon. The hard-as-nails retired defender was a squad member of the Eagles that won bronze at the 1992 Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal. He started his professional career at Stationery Stores of Lagos in 1990, before several stints at 3SC, helping the Oluyole Warriors reach the final of the CAF Champions in League in 1996. He played professionally abroad at Ivoirian side, African Sports, Anyang LG Cheetahs (Korea), SK Sturm Graz (Austria) and Indian club Mohun Bagan AC. Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has been arrested on the Greek island of Mykonos for allegedly attacking police after a fight outside a bar, according to local media.
