Culture-centric actress, director and producer, Kabirah Kafidipe, may not have been so visible in Nollywood for sometime but she is back like she never left. The actress would be premiering her latest movie, A date with Asmau, today in Lagos.
The faith-themed movie centres on polygamy in Muslim homes and stands to propagate the act of consciousness in Islam. It tells the story of Asmau (Kafidipe), a presenter of an Islamic programme on TV, who runs a non-governmental organisation that fights for the welfare of women and children. Though she is respected for her tenacity, kindness and truthfulness, she faces a lot of challenges, including with her marriage to Abdul Wahab (Ibrahim Chatta).
Speaking on what she intends to achieve with the movie, Kafidipe said, “It will trigger a lot of emotions and create a better understanding of Islam on some issues such polygamous marriages and family life in general, putting them in the right context as against the stereotypical understanding people peddle which in most cases have no basis in Islam.”
Other actors in the movie include Hafiz Oyetoro, aka Saka; Aisha Adams of Sidiqqah Foundation; Ni’mah Akashat of Your Views on TV; and Aminat Adams.
