UNILORIN alumni plans N250,000 endowment fund for Ayo Akinwale

The University of Ilorin Performing Arts Alumni association has requested for a N250,000 endowment fund to be set up in memory of a recently deceased actor and lecturer in the department of performing arts, Prof Ayo Akinwale.

Akinwale passed away on September 13, 2020, at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital at the age of 69.

In a letter addressed to the vice chancellor of the university, the alumni association stated that they sought to honour Akinwale’s memory with the endowment fund because he had impacted positively on the lives of students of the department since its inception in 1985. It read in part, “Prof Akinwale was an academic of repute and a total ‘theatrician’ who impacted on the lives of all of us who had the privilege of coming under his tutelage at different times. He equally followed up with monitoring and encouraging many of us over the years.

“Please accept the condolences of the entire membership of the University of Ilorin Performing Arts Alumni from the 1985 graduated set to date.

“With your permission, we seek to honour his memory with an endowment of a prize for the sum of N25,000 only to be given to the ‘Best Graduating Student’ in the Department of Performing Arts. We have the sum of N250,000 as seed money for 10 years ready and will remit it to the university as soon as you graciously approve of our request.

“UPAA will also like to participate actively in the various programmes for his burial.”
