You must tackle insecurity before it gets out of hands – Makinde tells Buhari

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, on Monday, urged President Muhamadu Buhari to without delay, address the spate of insecurity in the country.

Makinde, who spoke in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, expressed grave concern over state of insecurity in different parts of the country.

He called for proactive step on the part of the federal government to tackle the menace.

Makinde was reacting to the recent gruesome killings of 43 rice farmers in Borno state by armed bandits.

The Governor spoke during the official opening ceremony of the 2020 Annual Press Week of the Oyo state Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), at the Dapo Aderogba Hall, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

He warned that the current state of insecurity calls for immediate action to nip the situation in the bud.

Makinde said that there is a need for Buhari to tackle insecurity in the country before it’s gets out of hands.

“If we continue with this path, no one is safe in Nigeria. We need to change our course. We all have role to play in developing Nigeria.

“Though we cannot expect journalists to build road, because it is the primary responsibility of government but you have your role to play. But you can use your pen to destroy or develop Nigeria.

Makinde while speaking further charged journalists to continue to fight for betterment of Nigeria.

NUJ Chairman, Comrade Ademola Babalola said that Nigeria will be better if all and sundry play their roles.

“Nigeria can only develop if all regardless of their background play their parts.”
